GIUSEPPE TABACCO
Finestra (Window)

2008 / 2009, beeswax on wood

Inaugurated on May 28th, 2009 until October 3rd, 2009

Curated by Antonio Capaccio

Modern dispositions in economics and technique are very promising. They spread the reality in all its opulence and glory without asking nothing in return. They transform it into imagery, which is unconditionally ours. The raw reality seems to come towards us, welcoming us with open arms and letting itself being spoiled. But it’s just an illusion. With the camouflage of a democratic totalitarianism it forces us on our knees and condemns us to the most servile and inextinguishable consumerism.

What is left for us? In the best-case scenario, we will be granted with the vacuum cleaner, the radio, the washing machine, the fridge, the car. Banality will be our destiny, a parody of everyday life payed with the nonentity of our thoughts and the fear in our hearts.

A secret god awards various gifts to those who lean towards beauty. An abundance so fruitful that can’t even be told. What can we really say about beauty? Its foundation is impossible to tell. It’s a language that speaks on its own. A closed road to comprehension because it doesn’t need it. Who is devoted to beauty, just like a refugee on a boat, encounters risk and adventure. But what is the destination of this trip? It isn’t nostalgy, neither hope nor complicity.
