CRESCERE - Beate Von Essen

BEATE VON ESSEN
Crescere (Growing Up)

2015

Drawing on paper and watercolor

Inaugurated on October 14th, 2016 until January 31st, 2017

Curated by Antonio Capaccio

with a new poem by Claudio Damiani

The German artist returns to exhibit in a solo show in Rome after about twenty years, presenting two works - a drawing on paper and a watercolor - both of 2015.
The idea of the landscape and the feeling of nature are the primary inspiration of these works, in the outline of an almost impalpable and evanescent visionary, devoid of any rhetoric.

You see, growth I understand
-even if she is also mysterious-
but birth leaves me astounded
I really don’t know what to think
it’s that jump between a being and the other
like a bridge on top of an abyss
(and those single-celled that divide themselves,
which one is the father and which is the son?
Why do we say: “one mother cell
divides itself in two daughter cells”,
yes, I understand, but the mother is dead
or is she still alive?)”.
“Yes, and growth too, think about it
moving in such an ordered way
of infinite elements in a simple,
becoming who we are,
biology unveils the meaning of time,
it reveals is as a mystery
(Claudio Damiani)
